NYU fabrication labs

NYU Advanced Media Studio (AMS)

Contact:

  • wide-format archival print
  • laser cutting & etching
  • rapid prototyping
  • 3D scanning and printing
  • project development consultation
  • self-service workstations with a wide variety of software/hardware (reservations required)

Cost:

  • some services are free, some are fee-based. see price list
  • student fabrication may be covered up to 90% by grants they give to NYU departments.
    • these grants are given at the beginning of the semester and run out towards the end of the semester


NYU Barney Fabrication Lab

  • laser cutter (see laser cutter guide)
  • 3D printer
  • closet full of arduinos with tons of sensors available
  • soldering kits
  • helpful student employees

Cost:

  • use of tools is free
  • students must bring their own materials


NYU Leslie Prototype Lab

  • arduinos and raspberry pis and misc. sensors
  • soldering irons, drills, pliers, etc.
  • workshops

Cost:

  • tools and supplies are free for NYU students

Canal Plastics Center

  • prices vary depending on material and complexity
  • for example, a 5 inch ¼ inch tanslucent matte finish piece to be cut costs ~$13
